▪ I. † paˈtrone Obs. Also patronne. [a. F. patronne (= galère patronne), fem. of patron.] The galley which carried the lieutenant-general (= vice-admiral) of a squadron of galleys, and was usually the second galley of the squadron (the first being the capitana or captainess, in the French squadron the réale).
