Gr. πεντα- penta- five + -τοµος cut, in reference to the 5-jointed antennæ.] Belonging to the family Pentatomidæ of plant-feeding heteropterous insects, mostly of warm climates, and often brilliantly coloured. So penˈtatomine a. in same sense; penˈtatomoid a., related to, or resembling, the Pentatomidæ.
