peperite Geol.|ˈpɛpəraɪt| [ad. F. pépérite (P. L. A. Cordier Mémoire sur les Substances minérales dites ‘en Masse’ (1815) ix. 66), prob. f. pépér(ine peperino + -ite -ite1.] A brecciated volcanic material consisting of fragments of lava and sedimentary rock, regarded by some as formed by the intrusion of lava into wet sediment, freq. under water, and by others as a product of the mixing of volcanic ejectamenta with such sediments.
