‖ perienteron Embryol. and Zool.|pɛrɪˈɛntərɒn| [mod.L., f. peri- + Gr. ἔντερον intestine.] A space between the outer and inner layers (ectoderm and endoderm) of a gastrula, being the remnant of the blastocœle persisting after gastrulation, and forming a primitive body-cavity or perivisceral space, as distinct from the archenteron or primitive intestinal cavity. Hence perienteric |-ɛnˈtɛrɪk| a., of, pertaining to, or contained in the perienteron; perivisceral.
