† ˈpertinacy Obs. Also 7 -tenacy. [= Pr., It., Sp. pertinacia, ad. L. pertinācia, f. pertināx, -ācem: see pertinace. Cf. prec.] = pertinacity: being the earlier word; very common in 17th c. Mostly in an evil sense.
