1. Characterized by asking, soliciting, or begging; petitionary, supplicatory. Now rare.
1579G. Harvey Letter-bk. (Camden) 62, I suppose it needlesse extraordinarilye to procure any noblemans petitory or commendatorye letters in any sutch private respectes. 1651Jer. Taylor Holy Dying iii. §2 (1727) 63 The proper voices of sickness are expressly vocal and petitory in the ears of God. 1720Wodrow Corr.
