Pfalzian, a. (n.) Geol.|ˈpfæltsɪən| Also Pfälzian. [ad. G. Pfälzische (F. Kühne 1922, in Jahrb. Preuss. Geol. Landesanst. XLIII. 433), f. Pfalz, the (Rhineland) Palatinate (ult. f. L. palatium imperial residence: see palace n.1): see -ian.] Pertaining to or designating a minor orogenic episode in Europe which is believed to have occurred in the Permian period, later than the Saalian.
