phantastron Electronics.|fænˈtæstrɒn| [f. alteration of fantastic a. and n.: see -tron.] A circuit in which a brief triggering pulse produces at one electrode a longer pulse whose duration is proportional to an applied control voltage, and at another electrode a linear sweep voltage of the same duration (which can then be used to generate another pulse that will occur at a definite interval after the triggering pulse).

XXV. 143/1 The position of the selector pulse in the time scale depends on the delay produced by the phantastron and is controlled by R13. 1964R. Blitzer Basic Pulse Circuits vi. 215 A linear sawtooth voltage generator similar to the Miller sweep circuits of Sec. 6·11 is called the phantastron... Besides the sawtooth waveshape being used as a sweep, the phantastron is also often used as a delay circuit. |
