philothion Biochem. Obs. exc. Hist.|fɪləʊˈθaɪən| [a. F. philothion (J. de Rey-Pailhade 1888, in Compt. Rend. CVI. 1684), f. Gr. ϕιλο- (see philo-) + θεῖον sulphur.] = glutathione.
1888Jrnl. Chem. Soc. LIV. 1101 It follows that the substance, to which the author gives the name philothion, exists in animal tissues in a form different from that in which it exists in yeast.
