1822–34Good's Study Med. (ed. 4) II. 11 The inflammation of veins, by some writers called Phlebitis, has of late occupied more attention. 1878T. Bryant Pract. Surg. I. 425 Phlebitis is the chief evil to be feared from an injury to a vein. Hence phlebitic |flɪˈbɪtɪk| a., pertaining to or affected with phlebitis.
