a. adj. Belonging to the Physostomi, a group of teleost fishes, in which the air-bladder is connected with the alimentary canal by an air-duct: cf. physoclist.
b. n. A member of this group. So physoˈstomatous, phyˈsostomous a., having the air-bladder opening into an air-duct.
