L. pīleus cap.] An annual or perennial herb of the genus so called, belonging to the family Urticaceæ, native to many tropical regions, and cultivated elsewhere as a house plant; esp. Pilea muscosa, the artillery or gunpowder plant, which discharges clouds of pollen when it is touched.
