No examples of pult, pylt, pilt, in sense 1 or 2, are known after 1400, nor of sense 3 after c 1430 (when pult in this sense was generally succeeded by put). Instances of pelt occur somewhat later in a Northern text; but it is doubtful whether this is the mod.Eng. verb pelt.]
