pinaster Bot.|paɪˈnæstə(r)| [a. L. pīnaster (Plin.) wild pine, f. pīnus pine: see -aster. So F. pinastre, It., Sp. pinastro.] A species of pine (Pinus Pinaster) indigenous to south-western Europe; also called cluster- or star-pine. (The Pinaster or Wild Pine of the ancients is thought by Daubeny to have been P. maritima of modern botanists.)
