▪ I. ‖ pinta1|ˈpɪntə| [a. Sp. pinta, prop. coloured spot, a. late L. pincta for picta n. from fem. pa. pple. of pingĕre to paint.] A skin-disease prevalent in Mexico, caused by Treponema carateum, a spirochete related to those which cause syphilis and yaws, and characterized by roughness, blotches, and ulceration of the skin.
