a. A deposit of sand, gravel, or earth, in the bed of a stream, or any alluvial or diluvial detritus, containing gold or other valuable minerals in particles; a place where this detritus is washed for gold, etc. Also fig.
In U.S. law, placer includes all forms of mineral deposits excepting veins in place.
