poˌlaristroˈbometer [mod. f. med.L. polāris polar + Gr. στρόβος a whirling round + -meter; devised 1865 by Prof. H. Wild of Zurich. (He objected to the term polarimeter for an instrument that measures, not the amount of polarization, but the angle of rotation of the plane of polarization.)] A form of saccharimeter, giving a very delicate means for measuring the rotation of the plane of polarization produced by the sugar solution.
