pomatorhine, a. Ornith.|ˈpəʊmətəʊraɪn| [ad. mod.L. pōmatorhīnus adj., f. Gr. πῶµα, -ατ- lid, cover + ῥίς, ῥιν- nose.] Having the nostrils partly covered with a scale. Applied ineptly to a single species of Stercorarius or Skua, all the genus being really ‘pomatorhine’: cf. pomarine.
