pompano|ˈpɒmpənəʊ| Also pampano, pompono, pompinoe. [a. Sp. pámpano, applied to a stromateoid fish, Stromateus fiatola.] 1. A North American or West Indian marine fish belonging to the genera Trachinotus, Parona, or Zalocys, of the family Carangidæ, esp. Trachinotus carolinus, the common pompano, found near south-eastern coasts of North America.
