Pongola|pɒnˈgəʊlə| Also Pangola, and with lower-case initial. In full, Pongola or Pangola (finger-)grass. The name of a South African river used absol. and attrib. to designate a variety of the perennial grass Digitaria decumbens, originally native to regions near the river, but now widely cultivated in tropical areas.
