pontoneer, -ier Mil.|pɒntəʊˈnɪə(r)| Also pontooneer, -ier. [ad. F. pontonnier (12th c. in Hatz.-Darm.):—med.L. pontōnārius (855 in Du Cange) a ferryman, f. ponto, -ōnem pontoon: see -eer1.] One who has charge of pontoons, or of the construction of a pontoon-bridge.
