rhamphorhynchoid, a. and n. Palæont.|ræmfəʊˈrɪŋkɔɪd| [ad. mod.L. Rhamphorhynchoidea, f. Rhamphorhynchus (the type genus), f. Gr. ῥάµϕος beak + ῥύγχος snout: see -oid.] A. adj. Belonging to the extinct suborder Rhamphorhynchoidea of pterosaurs of the late Triassic and early Jurassic, characterized by a short neck and a long bony tail. B. n. A rhamphorhynchoid pterosaur.
