1822Edin. Jrnl. Sci. (1825) II. 136 The rice-paper consists of long hexagonal cells, whose length is parallel to the surface of the film. 1849Balfour Man. Bot. §852 Some say that a species of Desmanthus is the source of the cellular substance called Rice-paper. 1857Henfrey Bot. 311 The substance called Rice-paper, prepared by the Chinese, consists of thin slices of the pith of Aralia papyrifera. 1872Oliver Elem.
