richellite Min.|riːˈʃɛlaɪt| [a. F. richellite (Césaro and Despret 1883, in Ann. de la Soc. géol. de Belgique X. 36), f. Richelle, name of a locality near Visé in Belgium, where it was discovered; see -ite1.] A hydrated basic phosphate of calcium and ferric iron, usu. also containing fluorine, which occurs as amorphous reddish- or yellowish-brown masses.
1884Jrnl. Chem. Soc. XLVI. 1102 (heading) Richellite, a new mineral species. 1935J. W. Mellor Comprehensive Treat. Inorg. & Theoret. Chem. XIV. lxvi. 412 G. Cesaro and G. Desprez [sic] described a mineral from Richelle, Belgium, which they called richellite. The analysis corresponds with calcium ferric fluophosphate, although G. Cesaro gave 8Fe(PO4).Fe2OF2.(OH)2.36H2O for the formula. 1963Amer. Mineralogist XLVIII. 300 Richellite, a calcium-iron hydrated phosphate, appears to be virtually amorphous. |
