rifamycin Pharm.|riːfəˈmaɪsɪn| orig. rifomycin. [Prob. f. It. rifo-rmare to reform + -mycin.] Any of a class of natural and semi-synthetic antibiotics of which the first examples were isolated from the fungus Streptomyces mediterranei.
