[f. provost + -ry: cf. F. Provoterie, local name (in Godef.), variant of OF. prevosterie the tribunal of a prévôt.]
†1. The office or jurisdiction of a provost. Formerly applied to a Roman prætorship or prefecture; also to the provostship of a Scottish burgh. Obs.
