The word is not found in standard Fr. dicts., but occurs in specialist works (cf. C. Mague Dentelles Anciennes (1930)). Webster (1961) prefers to regard it as irreg. f. rose n., but its meaning and use in Eng. suggest a Fr. origin.]
In full, rosaline point. A variety of fine needlepoint or pillow lace. Used esp. of Venetian or Belgian rose-point lace. Also Comb.
