ˈpsaloid, a. an alteration of psalloid, due to an assumed derivation from Gr. ψαλίς, ψαλιδ- pair of shears, also a vault (= L. fornix): see quots. Psaloid from ψαλίς is as incorrectly formed as psalloid from ψάλλειν; its correct form would be *psalidoid.
