1. The Javanese art and method (introduced into England by way of Holland) of executing designs on textiles by covering the material with wax in a pattern, dyeing the parts left exposed, and then removing the wax, the process being repeated when more than one dye is used. Also, (a garment made of) a fabric dyed in this way; the kind of pattern, consisting of a medley of colours, characteristic of this art.
