1. Path. A stripping bare, as of hair or flesh.
1842in Dunglison Med. Lex. 1858in Mayne Expos. Lex. 1897Allbutt's Syst. Med. III. 368 In psilosis or sprue, the œsophagus is denuded of epithelium. Ibid. 776 ‘Psilosis’ (ψιλός, bare) is suggested by Phin in one of his valuable papers as a substitute for ‘sprue’.
2. Greek Gram. The substitution of a tenuis for an aspirate, as in ῥάπυς for ῥάϕυς, or of the spiritus lenis instead of the spiritus asper.
