1377Langl. P. Pl. B. v. 398 He bygan benedicite with a bolke,..And roxed [v.r. roskid, raxed] and rored and rutte atte laste. ▪ II. rox, v.2 dial. [Of obscure origin.] a. intr. To decay, soften, slacken. b. trans. To make soft or slack. Hence roxed ppl. a., decayed, etc.
