An evergreen New Zealand shrub or small tree, Griselinia littoralis, or G. lucida, a related, sometimes epiphytic, species, belonging to the family Cornaceæ and bearing leathery ovate leaves and panicles of tiny, greenish flowers followed by purple or black berries.
