[It has been shown by the Rev. A. L. Mayhew, in N. & Q. Ser. vii. The forms billern and billers, bilders are plural. The word appears in med.L. as berula, and is the F. berle = Sium angustifolium (Littré). It is also discussed by J. L. G. Mowat in Alphita (Anecd. Oxon.), 21, s.v. Berula.]
