bipp Med.|bɪp| Also bip, B.I.P.P. [f. the initials of Bismuth Iodoform Paraffin Paste.] A paste containing bismuth subnitrate, iodoform, and (sometimes) paraffin, used as a dressing for wounds. Also attrib. Hence as v. trans., to treat or cover with bipp.
1916R. Morison in Lancet 12 Aug. 268 The paste: Bismuth subnitrate, 1 oz. by weight; iodoform, 2 oz. by weight; paraffin liq. q.s. to make thick paste. I suggest for this the name ‘Bipp’. 1917Lancet 10 Mar. 378/1 Excellent results with ‘Bipp’ in compound comminuted fractures.
