‖ Salsola|ˈsælsələ| [mod.L. (Cæsalpinus De Plantis 1583 iv. xxxix. 170), a. It. † salsola, dim. of salso salt adj.] A genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the N.O. Chenopodiaceæ, found on the sea-coasts and salt-impregnated soils of warm and temperate regions, chiefly in the Old World; esp. S. soda, a species yielding soda. Also, a plant of this genus.
