‖ boomslang S. and E. Afr.|ˈbuːmslæŋ, ˈboːmslaŋ| [Afrikaans, f. boom tree + slang snake.] The tree-snake Dispholidus typus.
1793tr. Thunberg's Trav. I. 156 A serpent..was found here, called the Boomslang, or (tree serpent) on account of its being frequently found in trees. 1849Andrew Smith Illustr. Zool. S.
