brainiac, a. and n. slang (chiefly N. Amer.). Brit. |ˈbreɪnɪak|, U.S. |ˈbreɪniˌæk| [‹ Brainiac, the name of a super-intelligent alien character in the Superman comic strip (see quot. 1964), apparently a blend of brain n. and maniac n.
