† ˈbranskate, v. Obs. rare. [ad. Du. brandschatten = Ger. brandschatzen, f. brand burning + schatz treasure, orig. tribute. (The German word has also been used for the nonce.)] To put (a place) to ransom, or subject to a payment, in order to avoid pillage or destruction. Hence ˈbranskating vbl. n.
