1864Ret. Agric. Soc. Maine 54 They [sc. sheep] become very fat in the summer, which increases the brashness of the wool. 1929Ann. Appl. Biol. XVI. 41 The term ‘brashness’ arose in America, and is now in common use in the timber trade of both this country and the U.S.A. In this paper its use will be restricted to that condition of timber..which produces a peculiar ‘carroty’, short, fracture.
