schiffli, n.|ˈʃɪflɪ| [Swiss Ger., = G. Schiffchen shuttle.] Used attrib. to designate (a) a type of embroidery machine with diagonal shuttles which work on fabric stretched on a movable frame; (b) a style of fine embroidery done on such a machine. Also occas. absol. and adverbially, as schiffli embroidered.
