‖ schipperke|ˈsxɪpərkə, ˈʃɪpəkɪ| [Du. dial., lit. ‘little boatman’.] A small black dog belonging to the breed so called, distinguished by pointed, erect ears, a large ruff of longer fur on neck and chest, and usually a docked tail.
