açai, n. Nheêngatú is a Tupi–Guarani language used as a lingua franca in the Amazonian region.] Any of various palms of the South American genus Euterpe, often used as a source of palm hearts (in full açai palm). Also (more fully açai berry): the edible fruit of any of these trees (esp. E. oleracea), a small blackish-purple berry used principally for its juice.
