Bryophyta, n. Bot. Brit. |ˌbrʌɪə(ʊ)ˈfʌɪtə|, U.S. |ˌbraɪoʊˈfaɪdə| [‹ scientific Latin Bryophyta (see bryophyte n.).] With sing. and pl. concord. A division of non-vascular plants originally comprising mosses, liverworts, and hornworts, but restricted in later use to include only the mosses. Also (with pl. concord): members of this division collectively; bryophytes. In the restricted use also called Bryopsida.
