buddleia Bot.|ˈbʌdliːə, bʌdˈliːə| Also buddlea, buddleja. [mod.L. (Linnæus Hortus Cliffortianus (1737) 35), f. the name of Adam Buddle (died 1715), botanist: see -ia1.] Any plant of the genus of shrubs and trees of this name of the family Loganiaceæ, natives of America, Asia, and South Africa; esp. the large deciduous shrub B. davidii, with mauve flowers in panicles.
