‖ putamen|pjuːˈteɪmɪn| [L. putāmen that which falls off in pruning or trimming, husk, shell, f. putāre to prune.] 1. Bot. The endocarp of a fruit when hard and woody, as the ‘stone’ of a plum, etc.; rarely applied to the shell of a nut.
