1. A name given to several fishes, as
a. The fishing-frog or angler, Lophius piscatorius.
b. U.S. The sculpin.
c. ‘The toadfish, Batrachus tau’ (Cent. Dict. 1891).

1710Sibbald Fife & Kinross 84 Stella Marina squamosa; the Fishers call it the Sea-Toad, for that in colour it resembles a Toad.
