selachian, a. and n. Zool.|sɪˈleɪkɪən| Also selacian, selacean. [f. mod.L. Selachē (a. Gr. σελάχη, pl. of σέλαχος shark) or its derivative Selachiī + -ian. Cf. F. sélacien (Cuvier).] a. adj. Of or belonging to the genus Selache (Cuvier) of sharks, or to the group Selachii, the sharks and their allies. b. n. A shark or allied fish.
