Campylobacter, n. Microbiol. and Med.|ˈkæmpɪləʊˌbæktə(r), ˌkæmpɪləʊˈbæktə(r)| [mod.L. (coined in Fr. by Sebald & Véron 1963, in Ann. Inst. Pasteur CV. 907), f. Gr. καµπύλο-ς bent: see bacterium n.] A genus of microaerophilic bacteria including curved and spiral forms that frequently cause food poisoning in humans and abortion in some farm animals; (also campylobacter) a bacterium of this genus.
