canasta|kəˈnæstə| [Sp., lit. ‘basket’, ult. f. L. canistrum canister.] A card game of Uruguayan origin, in which two packs are used with four jokers, combining features of rummy and pinochle; canasta is also the name of a meld of seven cards.
