ˈcan-buoy Naut. [f. can n.1 + buoy n.] A large cone-shaped buoy, floated over sands, shallows, etc., and usually painted of a definite colour for purposes of recognition. (Formerly called can-bodies, Smyth, Sailor's Word-bk.)
